The pros and cons of womanhood

What a funny coincidence that my random blog swap-mate is just a hop, skip, and away over in the UK! I don’t know that much about her except that she’s got a great sense of humor and a unique writing style. And really, what more do you need? I trust you’ll all be kind, drop her a line to say hi or whatever. The women in particular. ;)

And a big thanks to fgrngtllt! It’s been a pleasure swapping with you.

hello one and all, i am FGRNGTLLT which is basically a short way of saying figuring it all out, which i am trying to do daily over HERE (updated 2-3-2010: dead link). please do stop by and visit. this is my 3rd ever blog swap and i’m very happy to have been paired with the lovely Kristan who is off to visit the island next door to mine. :) without further chit chat lets get to it!

HearMeRoar_bitters

this past week i had a little visit from the lady in red (period for those not in the know) and am lucky enough not to really suffer from immense crippling period pain but once in a while i am not so fortunate and last week was one of those weeks. and as i lay in bed clutching my stomach i cursed being a woman. in my head i started to run down a list of the things we women have to deal with on a daily:

*periods EVERY month
*waxing/shaving/plucking all body hair from the hairline down
*curves in the wrong places
*menopause
*estrogen
*being expected to be a ‘susie home-maker’
*pregnant/fat for 9 months
*stretch marks
*cellulite
*wrinkles
*cat calls from men on the street
*bras
*sore feet from high heels
*social pressure to look good ALWAYS

but then at the same time i thought ‘do i really want to be a man?’ and the answer was simple. despite all these negatives i LOVE being a woman. i am powerful as a woman. have you seen what a hint of cleavage can do for a gal? i can multi-task for goodness sake. i can chat for hours with my girlfriends. shop till i drop. wear killer heels and cry openly at sad movies. and HELLO chick flicks?! and ice cream cures all my aches and bumps. i don’t need a bruised nose or a black eye to show what a strong person i am. being a woman is awesome to put it mildly. so yes i have to shave several parts of my body regularly, and endure men staring at my breasts, but you know what? i wouldn’t swap it for the world. and maturing faster is definitely a plus. :)

I don’t think I could handle being a woman. Mostly because I thrive on isolation and I don’t know a lot of female loners.

Then again, I guess they wouldn’t get out much.

Nicely done, though I always find it interesting how women can scorn the “cat calls” types of behavior while at the same time planning to use their cleavage for personal gain. Not that I’m condemning.

I wonder what would happen if I did a post similar to this.

    ScoMan-
Lol. Hi, and welcome! I don’t think I could handle being a guy. Dealing with girls is too trick.

    Todd-
We women are fickle, what can I say? We only like something if it works in our favor. Or wait, is that human nature more than female nature? :P

Should I double dog dare you?

Probably goes double for women ;)

Seriously? Can’t imagine what a “manly” post from me would look like, as anyone will tell you I’m not a typical man’s man. Not really a typical anything, I guess. Ooooo deep.

I get annoyed by those things too, but I also like being a woman and don’t think I would like to be a man. Women are usually more fun, men tend to be more boring. If I were a guy I’d probably be gay, or at least everyone would think I were gay heh.
