Good to know

From PREP author Curtis Sittenfeld (a woman! who I hope to meet through a mutual connection!) in an NY Times essay I’m Y.A., and I’m O.K.:

“You write the book you want to write, and then publishing has its way with it.”

I read that book! She was the “writer in residence” at my ex-boyfriend’s high school.

They do writers in residence at high schools?? Crazy.

Out of curiosity, what’d you think of PREP? It got very mixed reviews.

I think it was a good beach read — and not much more than that. It’s always interesting to get a glimpse into the elite prep school world (gossip girl much?) but the protagonist was this really plain-jane midwestern girl, hard to relate to.

Hi Kristan! I found your blog through your comment on Dooce. I know how much you enjoyed viewing her movie about cooking and eating edamame. You can view the East Coast video response to that cinematic masterpiece at http://www.ournameisblog.blogspot.com We hope you will leave a comment.

I’m curious, do you think Good Daughters will fall into that category, or is it more like Amy Tan niche? Is the stigma surrounding young adult that bad? I think of Lois Lowry, Judy Blume and Louis Sachar, who are amazing writers, but I guess they were focused on that audience. I’m sure JK Rowling doesn’t mind reaching adults and young adults and kids.

Haha at the article about how YA authors are nicer.

Everyone who’s heard of it very clearly puts it in the Amy Tan category (which I’m finally okay with). I don’t really see how it could be YA without any YA main characters…

Agreed on Lois Lowry and Judy Blume.

And yeah, haha, I’m sure JK Rowling doesn’t mind at all!
