In addition to writing, one of my big passions is dance. This video encapsulates why:
This video also shows why I love Melissa, Ade, and So You Think You Can Dance. It’s totally worth watching the responses from the judges as well (particularly Mia Michaels).
Obviously as a writer I think words are worth a lot, but I think this dance expresses the issue of breast cancer at least as well as, if not better than, anything I have ever read.

Wow. Thanks for bringing this to my awareness Kristan. I cried. Both times I watched it. But a good cry. It’s important for me to not totally lose touch with the vulnerability, fear, and hope that one goes through while fighting breast cancer.

As much as I liked this piece, it essentially gave the dancers a free pass to the next round. Who ISN’T going to like a dance about a cancer survivor? It’s kind of like when Mia choreographed a dance about her dead father. There’s no way the judges would ever honestly critique it, because the piece was too emotionally loaded. That being said, Ade and Melissa are great. Not my favorites (read: JEANINE), but pretty great.
Oh for sure. I don’t remember Mia’s piece about her dad (which probably means I didn’t care for it, but that’s not guaranteed) so to use another example from this season, it’s kind of like Asuka and Vitolio’s piece that was supposed to be about Vitolio’s life and struggles. Um, it wasn’t that awesome, but it got them through to the next round. This, on the other hand, I thought was spectacular, so I’m okay with it boosting them through. :P
I do love Jeanine though. She’s my girl to win it!
