Here goes nothing…

Some of you probably know about NaNoWriMo. If you don’t, basically it’s November. For writers. Who are crazy enough to try and write a novel (defined as approx. 50,000 words) in one month.

Now, why am I talking about NaNoWriMo, aka November, in August? Because I’m going to do my own NaNoWriMo (even though I’ve never done the real one) starting RIGHT NOW. Or really, yesterday. Or really really, as soon as I finish blogging (and taking Riley out and showering). Because, you know, I work better under pressure and with deadlines.

And you, my friends/strangers/loyal readers/not so loyal readers, are going to bear witness. Every day this month I will blog my word count in addition to whatever else I plan on rambling about. If I don’t reach at least 50k by midnight on Aug 31, 2009, then y’all can… well I don’t know, leave suggestions in the comments if you really want to punish me somehow.

I won’t bother you with the reasons why excuses, but I didn’t really get anything done this weekend. Luckily I already have 3,112 words typed up and probably another 1,000 to 3,000 handwritten in my journal. But we’ll start with what we know.

Word Count – Aug 2, 2009:
3,112/50,000

Let’s hope this doesn’t turn out too badly, eh?

haha, sweet. I am a 4-time Nano champion and will cheer you on. (Plus I also tried it by myself, one May, before my first November Nano- I managed 40k in 40 days.)

Kate did that last year and it was exciting to hear bits about her experience on her blog.

    Go Kristan!

Sounds like quite an experiment. I think the most interesting part of it will be what you decide to do with the manuscript you end up with in the end! Will you be sick of it or be willing to go back and work on it? Hmmm?

Good, I hope it works out! I know posting things to do on my blog helps me, whether or not anyone reads my list.

Thanks for all the encouragement! And yay for no one wanting to “punish” me, hehehe. (Don’t worry, I’m sure Andy will think of something…)

    Good luck!
I have a much more meager goal of 8-10k (or more) per month until June. That is one of my 10 goals; to finish this damn book by next summer and be able to send out a manuscript in the fall.

    You can do it!

Can I be your official cheering section?

Of course! I need it, haha.

Best of luck! I did it last November and it was one of the most rewarding things I’ve accomplished lately. You can totally do it! Just don’t miss a day because it’s a bitch to try catching up! :)

Ugh, so I’m learning… I haven’t NOT written yet, but I’ve written very little on a couple days. :\

Thanks for the encouragement, though! It’s keeping me up tonight. :)
